Recommendations for Prenatal Testing

All pregnant women, regardless of their age, are recommended non-invasive prenatal screening for most frequent malformations and chromosomal aberrations (ultrasound and biochemical tests). Pregnancy of each woman is susceptible to chromosomal aberrations. This risk depends basically on the mother’s age and the week of pregnancy. It is also worth noting that, however, the chance of occurrence of some genetic diseases increases along with the mother’s age, most Down syndrome children are born by mothers under 35 years of age. Invasive tests should be performed prior to non-invasive testing. The exception being women under 40 and those who consciously wish not to do so.
